Initial work works on this project started back in June and included removal of lead based paint, drilling of existing floor beams, and the installation of new brackets to accomodate the new rail beams. Modifications were also made to existing cross bracings to align with the new rail beams. During this time we were also working on 12 pre-cast concrete bolsters which we made in-house at our yard in Kaiata.
Once this work was complete we had a 7 day/6 night Block of Line window in early August to complete the rail beam replacement works. Battling cold and sporadic snowstorms, the team clocked an estimated 2,520 hours during the shutdown. By 11/8/23, the bridge was handed over to KiwiRail's track crew, to ready the track for the TranzAlpine the next day. A big thank you to all who contributed, including teams from the wider Isaac Group.
