Liddell Contracting have won the contract to remove the existing timber wharf structure and subcontract to Bellingham Marine to construct a new floating wharf in Greymouth.
The new wharf consists of 11 new piles and 60 floating pontoons. Smith Crane was engaged to drive the pile with their 130 ton crane sitting on a certified crane pad built by Liddell Contracting using concrete block, wire ropes and gravel.
Our crew of three is working with a foreman from Bellingham to transport, launch and assemble the pontoons. This job is a valuable experience for us as it’s the first floating pontoon we have ever done. We will work with Bellingham Marine at Westport Wharf to build a similar structure after this project is finished.
