This project was to build and install a walkway bridge to replace the existing timber structure for the West Coast District Health Board.
This project was to build and install a walkway bridge to replace the existing timber structure. This required a steel truss to be fabricated and surface protection applied using an aluminium arc spray coating. A timber walkway deck to be constructed on the structure, inclusive of handrails fitted with LED strip lighting. All stages of this work were carried out in house at our Kaiata workshop.
The site component of the project required the existing bridge to be removed and new foundations to be constructed by driving H piles and forming a footing using gabion baskets. Precast abutments were craned into position over the piles and locked into place by grouting. The bridge span was craned into place as one unit, and the approaches were formed to meet disability standards with a combination of timber walkway and concrete ramps.
All aspects of this project were completed in house by Liddell Contracting. Third-party quality inspections were carried out throughout the project by SQA for Welding and Opus for coatings. The entire project was subject to our internal QA checks as work progressed.
